A common foot condition characterised by inflammation of the plantar fascia — the thick band of tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes — causing heel pain and stiffness, often worst on the first steps in the morning.

An overuse injury characterised by inflammation of the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone, causing pain and stiffness in the heel area.

Known medically as onychocryptosis, an ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin, leading to pain, redness, swelling and sometimes infection.

Also known as fallen arches, flat feet occur when the arches of the feet collapse, causing the entire sole to touch the ground. This lack of arch support can lead to foot, ankle, knee, hip or back pain over time.

Thickened areas of skin that develop due to repeated friction, pressure or irritation — the body’s natural way of protecting itself from excessive rubbing. Uncomfortable, but very treatable.

A common infection that occurs when a microscopic fungus enters one or more nails — often beginning as athlete’s foot — causing nails to discolour, thicken and develop crumbling edges.
